General Order No. 3, read on June 19, 1865, announcing that all slaves in Texas were officially free, is one of the United States most significant events that happened right here in Galveston!

Juneteenth is a now a national holiday and Galveston is home to one of the largest Juneteenth celebrations and emancipation history.
