GLEN L. SWETMAN

Glenn L. Swetman

Built in 1989 in Biloxi, Mississippi, she has a length of 79 feet, a sail area of 2,800 square feet, and a hull made of wood.

When you step on the Glenn L. Swetman, you're taking a step back in time. The Glenn L Swetman is an authentic replica of a Biloxi oyster schooner, paying homage to the robust industry of oystering along the Gulf coast. Vessels like the Glenn L. Swetman were known as "White Winged Queens" and once sailed the Gulf coast from the late 1800s to the early 1900s.

Vessels like these were phased out along the Gulf Coast with the introduction of powerful marine engines and strict oyster harvesting laws. The Glenn L Swetman is used as a museum ship to tell the story of early oystering along the Gulf coast and today resides at its home port and Biloxi, Mississippi.
